It seems like everyday a new place to get some good eats opens up near the University of Miami. Whether you’re looking for a full meal, dessert, or just drinks, you’ll find a new place nearby! We’ve highlighted some of these places and what they have to offer.
Honeybee Doughnuts
If you love fancy doughnuts but can’t always trek over to Wynwood, hit up Honeybee Doughnuts on Red Road near Sunset. Hand-crafted and fresh every day, Honeybee boasts flavors such as Apple Pie, S’mores, Matcha, Bourbon Maple Bacon, and their own Signature Honeybee (which is a raised doughnut filled with fresh whipped cream and local honey)–a perfect treat after a long day of classes. They also serve Panther coffee and create doughnut cakes and towers for special events.
Ohho Noodles Market
Situated right across the gates of UM is Ohho Noodles Market. You may know this place as Stir Moon; however, they have revamped everything and changed for the better. If you’ve never been, they serve a wide variety of Asian cuisines like Dim Sum, noodle soup, Pat Bing Soo, crepes, and even fried chicken. Appetizers range from $6 to $8 and entrees are between $10-$15. For a unique brunch experience, try out the Dim Sum. If you want an authentic Asian dessert, go for Honey Toast or Pat Bing Soo. If you have a separate stomach for dessert, also hit up some of their baked goods. Yum.
TacoCraft Tacos & Tequila Bar
Sunset’s newest Mexican restaurant, TacoCraft, has a couple of locations throughout Fort Lauderdale and South Miami, but their newest location is right near Sunset, just across from Rok:Brgr. Priding themselves on using local, fresh ingredients, TacoCraft takes street food classics and puts modern twists on them, even featuring artwork from Wynwood street artist Ruben Ubiera in the restaurant. Try interesting entrees at brunch such as the oxtail empanadas or duck confit and cheesy waffles, or hit up Taco Tuesdays and enjoy $3 tacos, $4 beers, and $6 margaritas. They also have happy hour Monday through Friday from 3-8, with 2 for 1 drink specials.
Tea & Poets
Another new eatery within Sunset is Tea & Poets, featuring a variety of tea, beer, wine, coffee, and baked goods. They also sell flowers, body products, clothing, and artwork. It is set up with a full service tea bar on one side and an indoor art walk type market on the other. On the fourth Tuesday of every month, you can attend an open mic night or live performances on other occasions. Each day, they have specials of mixed tea cocktails and feature unique flavors such as chocolate teas and flavor shots of chili or elderflower. This is a perfect place to go if you’re looking for somewhere with a chill atmosphere or just want to experience some unique tea.
