Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor will be visiting the University of Miami campus on Friday, Feb. 1, 2013 to discuss her memoir My Beloved World. UM President Donna Shalala will lead the discussion using questions from students that deals less with questions of law and more of what Sotomayor hasn’t revealed in her book. According to Shalala, Sotomayor’s visit is particularly noteworthy because students will get to see a very important public figure that will be important for their entire generation in their lifetime. She’s a younger member who will be on the court for a very long time. They’ll see someone who didn’t grow up with great wealth who they can aspire to. She’s a role model for them.”
The event is open to the public but UM students can pick their tickets up at the Whitten University Center Ticket Window. Tickets can also be obtained by purchasing a copy of My Beloved World from Books & Books.
