No matter where they come from, most students have one thing in common; they’re on a budget. But being a student has some perks that can make it easier to save money.
Believe it or not, there are a bunch of benefits hidden where you’d least expect them: in your Cane Card. Your Cane Card holds a special power in many restaurants, frozen yogurt shops, and other stores. Simply showing your card can get you access to awesome student deals, so don’t be afraid to ask if any Cane Card deals are available next time you make a purchase. Brother Jimmy’s BBQ gives UM students 15 percent off, and Miami’s Best Pizza offers 10 percent off. Monday through Friday, Brother Jimmy’s also offers a free beverage with any signature sandwich or wrap from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. During their happy hour from 4-7 p.m., they offer $3 or $4 beers and $5 appetizers.
Farther from campus, there are also many happy hours to make the most out of a student budget.
Blackbird Ordinary, located in the heart of Brickell, is known for its lounge atmosphere. Still, this spot has some money-saving secrets. Happy hour is from 3-8 p.m., and drinks are 2-for-1 all day, every day. Every Tuesday is ladies’ night, with free drinks until 1:30 a.m. Blackbird even has a 10 percent discount for teachers, so there’s truly a deal for everyone.
For sushi lovers, there are many affordable ways to enjoy sushi alongside your favorite cocktail. At Doraku, on Lincoln Road, you’ll find a unique happy hour menu available every day from 5-7 p.m. The menu includes great steals like $5 sushi rolls and sake, and wine or beer for $4. Suviche, located in Brickell, offers a Tuesday deal of buy one roll, get the second roll 50 percent off. Also, every day from 3-7 p.m., the Japanese fusion restaurant offers 2-for-1 drinks. If your sushi craving still isn’t satisfied, local favorite Sushi Samba has a happy hour from Sunday to Friday from 4-7 p.m., with drinks as low as $5.
If you’re looking for something a bit more American, burgers and beer is the way to go. Burger and Beer Joint has some of the most delicious burgers and refreshing beer in Miami. Monday through Friday, they offer $3 wine glasses, as well as half off every beer, and selected menu items for $3. On Tuesdays, the spot has a special deal they call “Pimp My Burger”, allowing guests to create their own burger for only 10 bucks.
For the artsier crowd, head to Wynwood. Wood Tavern is a hip, casual and laid back place to get a good deal. From 5-8 p.m., every Tuesday is “Taco Tuesday.” Additionally, the tavern holds a “Love You Happy Hour” from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Oak Tavern is also recognized for its fine food and spirits. They offer a happy hour every day from 4-7p.m. Cafeina, as its name suggests, is full of energy and is the leading full liquor bar and lounge in its area. Happy hour is Thursday and Friday from 5-9 p.m. R House is a more comforting way to have happy hour. With a home-like atmosphere, R House is filled with amazing food, art and music. Happy hour is Tuesday through Friday, from 5-8 p.m., with cocktails and bites as low as $5.
