UM Takes on Food Day

UM recently took part in Food Day; a celebration and movement for healthy, affordable, and sustainable food throughout America. The day started off with the already weekly Farmer’s Market at the Foote University Green, which is every Wednesday from 9AM to 3PM. They sell a variety of fresh produce, baked goods, fine cheeses, locally harvested honey, and additional merchandise. In the lower lounge of the UC, a community food organization fair of non-profit campus groups ran 11AM to 2PM. The event ended with the screening of Food Stamped, an entertaining documentary film about people trying to manage a healthy diet while only using food stamps, after realizing how difficult it is, they contact the US Congress to inform them about our poor food structure. Concluding the film, UM faculty and local organization leaders discussed and shared their ideas on how to fix the problems the film documented.
