Thousands of electronic music lovers make the pilgrimage during the third weekend of March every year to attend Miami’s one-and-only Ultra Music Festival, an electronic dance music festival rivaled in size only by Las Vegas’s Electric Daisy Carnival.
This year’s festival was attended by an estimated 165,000 people, easily becoming the most well attended event in its 14-year history. Headlined by superstar electronic music producers like Tiesto, David Guetta, and Avicii, this year’s event also saw a surprise guest-appearance by none other than Madonna, whose drug-referencing greeting to the crowd was widely panned in the media and online.
This weekend, UM student photographers Natalie Edgar, Ela Apa, and Maggie Fragel went to the festival to snap some shots on behalf of Distraction. Take a look through their lenses at UMF 2012:
