This past Wednesday, a new student organization on campus, the International Justice Mission, stood for freedom on the rock for 16 hours. They started at 8am on Wednesday morning and ended at midnight. This event was organized by their headquarters and took place at Universities all over the country. The purpose of the Stand for Freedom event was to stand up for those who are victims of human trafficking and raise awareness of this billion dollar industry.
The students who chose to stand at the rock had signs that provided students with information about the human trafficking industry, such as how many people fall victim to it each year, and how much money it generates annually ($32 billion). Students were able to stand for as long as they liked, and they were also able to take selfies for freedom, in order to show their support for human trafficking victims.
The international Justice Mission is a new organization on campus that began this March. The president, David Beltran, remarked that the event was a success because their fundraiser was successful, and they were able to get almost 60 students to sign up for more information.
