The Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) just got several shades brighter. Friday, Sept. 19, PAMM unveiled a new exhibition created by Brazilian artist Beatriz Milhazes.
The exhibition, called “Beatriz Milhazes: Jardim Botânico,” is inspired by the contrast of bright colors from her home in Rio de Janeiro, as well as a mix of “Brazilian and European Modernism, Baroque forms, popular culture, and the decorations of Carnival,” according to the PAMM website.
The pieces in the exhibition collectively span her 25 year career as an artist and museum guests will be able to see up close her unusual yet brilliant painting technique.
In an interview posted on YouTube and shared on the PAMM website, Milhazes says that her unique technique developed from her preference of the texture acrylic paint takes as it dries on plastic as opposed to the look of brush strokes on canvas.
The exhibit will be on display at PAMM until Jan. 11, 2015.
Admission for students with a valid student ID is $8, but, if you are looking to save an extra buck and still experience PAMM in all its beauty, the museum has free admission every second Saturday of the month. The next free day is Oct. 11.

To get to PAMM from campus by Metro, take the Northbound Metrorail (green line or orange line) to Government Station. At Government Station, transfer to a Metromover and take the Omni loop to Museum Park Station. You will be dropped off right in front of PAMM.
