It is a great time to be alive! Not only is school in full swing, but all our favorite TV shows that we know and love are coming back! FINALLY!
Before I completely digress and start talking about “Scandal,” (but actually, that Shonda Marathon last week was everything) it is time to talk about the whole new wave of 28 TV shows that are set to premiere this fall!
So as not to overwhelm you with all 28 in one post, I am splitting up this trailer round up into three different posts of new TV shows based on the genre. There will be a post on comedies, one on dramas, and the last post in this trilogy on thrillers scheduled for the fall.
As you have probably guessed from the headline, this post is going to be about 13 new comedies. So… without further ado….
A to Z (NBC)

A to Z is a romantic comedy about a guy named Andrew (the A) and a girl named Zelda (the Z). Andrew works for an internet dating service whose dream is to do more than set up people with random hookups.
Zelda is lawyer who is an über picky about men.
They meet at the office and go on a date, but the date ends up going horribly wrong because Zelda thinks Andrew is a creepy.
Turns out, Andrew and Zelda have some history that neither of them realized.
This show stars Ben Feldman (aka the angel from “Drop Dead Diva”) as Andrew and Cristin Milioti (aka the mother from “How I Met Your Mother”) as Zelda.
Katey Sagal (the crazy house wife Pat from Disney Channel Movie, Smart House) will serve as the narrator for each episode.
The show is set to air Thursday, Oct. 2 on NBC.
Bad Judge (NBC)

Kate Walsh serves as the bad judge Rebecca Wright who can be described as nothing short of a hot mess.
Not only is she ruthless when she takes the stand, she also is known to sleep with her witnesses and take the stand completely hung over if not drunk.
Yeah. Hot mess.
All that is set to change when she befriends an 8-year-old boy named Robbie Shoemaker whose parents she sent to jail. As a consequence, Robbie is now a ward of the state.
The show is described as a legal comedy and with Will Ferrell serving as executive producer.
The show is also set to air Thursday, Oct. 2 on NBC.
Black-ish (ABC)

Black-ish is a sitcom that starts Anthony Hamilton and Tracee Ellis Ross as a successful black family living in a white neighborhood.
Hamilton plays Andre ‘Dre’ Johnson Sr., a father who is desperately trying to keep his family connected to their African American roots.
Laurence Fishburne is also in the series serving both as executive producer with Anthony Hamilton and the father of Hamilton’s character Andre Johnson Sr.
The first episode of the show has already aired, but you can catch Black-ish on Wednesday nights on ABC.
Cristela (ABC)
As you will see is the trend this season in comedy, a lot of comedians are adding “actor/actress” to their resume. Why do I bring this up right now, you may ask?
Meet Cristela.
She is a law school grad working as an un-paid intern at a law firm. Ever since she graduated from school, she has been living with her family as she struggles to find a real job.
Cristela is played by stand-up comedienne Cristela Alonso who also serves as the executive producer of the show.
The show is set to premiere Friday, Oct. 10 on ABC.
Jane the Virgin (CW)

After her grandmother completely scars her as a child with a lesson about what happens when you deflower a flower, Jane has abstained from sex.
Even after 13 years and a boyfriend, Jane has kept her promise to her grandmother and stayed a virgin.
However, Jane’s world completely crumbles when her gynecologist accidently artificially incriminates her and gets her pregnant with her ex-crush’s DNA.
If you are thinking: “Wait, what? Things like this only happen in telenovelas!” you would be correct. This TV show is based loosely off of a Venezuelan telenovela.
The show is set to premiere Monday, Oct. 13 on the CW.
Manhattan Love Story (ABC)

Manhattan Love Story is a romantic comedy about two people, Peter and Dana, who get set up on a blind date by a mutual friend. Peter is a self-proclaimed player from New York City and Dana is new to the Big Apple but she is armed with a list of things she wants to do while in New York. When Peter takes Dana out on their first date to a restaurant, the date end abruptly with Dana running out of the restaurant in tears and Peter trying later trying to make it up to her by fulfilling the goals Dana has on her list.
The show is set to premiere on Tuesday, Sept. 30 on ABC.
Marry Me (NBC)

If there was ever a couple that has had a harder time trying to settle down, it’s Jack and Annie. After dating for six years, Annie is furious with Jack for not proposing to her during their vacation, not realizing that it was Jack’s plan to propose when they got back until it was way too late. Just watch the trailer. It will explain everything.
This sitcom is set to premiere Tuesday, Oct. 14 on NBC.
The Red Band Society (Fox)

This show about a group of teens living in the pediatric ward of a Los Angeles hospital has generated a lot of buzz in the media world, possibly because of the story line, possibly because people are curious to see if Steven Spielberg’s newest television show will be his redemption after NBC’s “Smash” was not… a smash hit (#awkward). This dark comedy stars X-Factor alum and Astronomical Kid, Astro as well as “The Help’s” Octavia Spencer.
The show premiered Sept. 17 but you can catch episodes of “The Red Band Society” Wednesday nights on Fox.
Mulaney (Fox)
This fall season, stand-up comedians are joining the small screen sitcom world.
If you are an avid SNL fan, you will probably be familiar with the title of the show because “Mulaney” stars former SNL comedian and writer John Mulaney and his life in NYC after getting hired as a writer for a game show. Another SNL alum who stars in “Mulaney” is Nasim Pedrad, who was SNL’s go-to-gal for any sketch where a Kim Kardashian spoof was needed. Pedrad actually left SNL to join “Mulaney” as a main cast member.
The show is set to premiere on Fox on Sunday, Oct. 5
Selfie (ABC)
It was only a matter of time before someone created a show titled after one of the most basic behaviors of our society. Emmy nominated writer Emily Kapnek, best known for creating the animated program “As Told by Ginger” and being the consulting producer of “Parks and Recreation,” has created a show about Eliza Dooley who is as basic of a bit-… person… as they come. When she realizes that she has no real friends (no real friends. no no real. #thanksdrake), Dooley decides it is time to change her ways. In a fit of desperation, she enlists the help of marketing and image expert, Henry Higgs. According to Higgs, played by actor John Cho, his job is to transform Dooley from a “social media obsessed, narcissist… into a woman of stature.” Eliza Dooley is played by actress Karen Gillan.
The show is set to premiere on Sept. 30 on ABC.
Survivor’s Remorse (Starz)
Survivor’s Remorse follows new NBA recruit Cam Calloway as he adjusts to his new life of superstardom after signing a hefty contract. The show stars newcomer Jessie T. Usher in the lead role as Cam Calloway as well as some more familiar faces like Tichina Arnold who is best known for her role in “Everybody Hates Chris” and “Martian” as well as Teyonah Parris from “Mad Man.”
A lot of buzz has been surrounding this show not only because of the cast, but because of the executive producer is none other than real-life NBA superstar LeBron James.
Now, I know what you are thinking: “Since LeBron James is the executive producer, this show is his autobiography!”
If this is what you are thinking, you are wrong…. kinda. Cam Calloway is not LeBron James by a different name, however, Calloway’s experiences on the show are, according to a New York Times article on the show “inspired by” James’ own experiences.
Okay LeBron. We’ll accept it… for now…
The show is set to premiere on Saturday, Oct. 4 on Starz.
The McCarthys (CBS)
“The McCarthys” is a CBS sitcom about a large Irish-Catholic family living their day to day lives in Boston. The main character of the family is Rooney McCarthy who doesn’t quite fit into the family, not because he is gay, but because he is not as into sports as the rest of his family. The show is set to premiere Thursday, Oct. 30 on CBS.
The Mysteries of Laura (NBC)

Debra Messing (aka Grace from “Will and Grace”) stars in this police-crime dramedy (drama plus comedy) as Laura Diamond. Diamond is a hardcore homicide detective for NYPD who balances life taking down the bad guys with being single mother of two boys. The show premiered on Sept. 17, but you can catch new episodes of “The Mysteries of Laura” every Wednesday night on NBC.
