As a college student, it’s easy to get caught up in the books and put your health on the backburner. When balancing exams, extracurricular commitments and a busy college social life, it could seem difficult to fit health into the equation.
However, this is not the case for Junior Rachel Westhoff. Westhoff, who is not only a focused and dedicated student, but is very active socially, as a sister of the Sigma Delta Tau Sorority.
So how does Westhoff keep up with school, her social life and maintain a healthy life?
Westhoff said that “she has always been into health and fitness since she was young”. She grew up as a ballerina, so staying healthy and active was a big part of her childhood. When she got to college, she carried those habits with her.
Westhoff says, “I love to go out and have fun…which is part of who I am…so over the years I’ve figured out how to have fun and be healthy, so I want to show people how to do that.” And that is exactly what she is doing with her new website.
Westhoff decided to start a blog called “Westhoff Wellness”, where she posts recipes, workouts, and tips to achieving a healthier lifestyle. She even posts articles about budgeting within a healthy lifestyle because a lot of people are under the misconception that it is expensive to be healthy.
One of her articles specifically targets how to budget your money at Whole Foods, which is notoriously known to be quite pricey, especially for a college student.
In the article entitled “How to Shop At Whole Foods Like the Thrifty B*tch You Are”, she encourages her viewers to buy produce on Sundays, follow the Whole Foods instagram for deals, and so much more, but I won’t spoil the article for you!
Westhoff shows her subscribers that you don’t have to be superhuman to be healthy and fitness can be fun and cheap!
I asked what her motivation was behind starting this blog. She said that she aspires to use the vlog to “brand herself” and open some type of wellness center. She alluded that she wants to open some type of “Soul Cycle-esque” type of place, for people to come achieve their fitness goals.
Westhoff wants to start getting some of her ideas out there and eventually turn her blog into her career. She is passionate about entrepreneurship and has taken advantage of classes offered at UM to answer all of her questions about starting up her brand.
Westhoff says she has a lot of exciting things coming our way within the blog! She plans on posting more workouts and a plethora of new recipes that are easy and convenient to make.
She wants her subscribers to take away the idea that it’s easier and more fun than they may think to live a happy and healthy life. Westhoff is proof that a college student can really have it all: exceed in school, thrive socially, AND live a healthy life.
