Monday marked a new day at the “U” as President Julio Frenk gave his first ever State of the University address at the Watsco Center. Frenk presented an outline of the strategies for the Roadmap to Our New Century. The goal towards becoming a preeminent research institution is urgent as he describes, with many obstacles on the way.
Students, faculty and the media where invited to attend this historic event where the President shared the vision for the university and answered important questions. Administrative excellence, education for life, mission-driven research, just to name a few, are the administration’s goals for the next 10 years. With the future in sight, the president has big plans for the “U”.
“The state of the university of Miami is strong and rising.”
Senior Ainsly Wolfinbarger attended the event as a representative for Senate body Student Government. The biology major said that she admired the sheer passion and conviction that President Frenk spoke with.
“Even as a senior with my time here at the U coming to an end, he got me excited about the future trajectory of this University, said the senator. “[I am] proud to get to be a part of such a unique and special place that has a global impact.”
President Frenk was also joined by NBC6 news anchor and UM alumna Jackie Nespral for a Q&A session with the audience.

President Frenk’s address is the first of its kind at the “U” and the physician reassured the mission of the university when he said, “Our institutions brightest days are yet to come.”
