Spring is the season of renewal. It is the optimal time to refresh your mind, your body, and your wardrobe. However, in a world where fashion trends wilt as fast as they blossom, the desire to obtain the latest and greatest styles every season can be overwhelming. But it doesn’t have to be. One of the simplest ways to change your look for the new season is through accessories. However, I’m not talking about your usual go-to pieces, such as chokers, hats, or sunglasses. I am referring to the freshest accessories you’ll ever find—flowers.

With their beautiful blooms and sweet scents, flowers bring life to any occasion, so they can definitely rejuvenate your outfits. This saves you from having to overturn your entire wardrobe for the new season. One great way to add flowers to your ensembles is by putting them in your hair. Forget simply placing a flower behind your ear. Instead, try completely incorporating multiple flowers by lacing them through braids, arranging an array in an afro, or blending them into space buns for a put-together look.

Although, living in Miami makes the hunt for beautiful flowers easy, picking flowers from our pristine and manicured campus and surrounding area isn’t necessarily the best idea. Instead, a local supermarket is just as sufficient. Here is a list of some of our favorites: Rainbow Brights Bouquet (includes sunflowers, lilies, carnations, alstroemeria, roses and fillers) • Publix • $17.99. Sizzler Bouquet (includes jumbo mums, button mums and daisies) • Publix • $5.99. Assorted Single Stem Rose (includes a single rose and baby’s breath) • Publix • $2.99.

Once you’ve found the perfect flower, it’s time to select a hairstyle. Try our suggested looks, or add a unique spin of your own.

Petal Plait

Keeping long hair in a manageable style is essential. But manageable does not have to mean boring. This braided look is ultra cute with the baby’s breath, mums, daisies and mini carnations throughout. It can be accomplished by creating a single braid, cutting the stem of each flower to approximately 1 inch, and placing each stem into your braid in no particular pattern. Secure the flowers with hair pins.

Flower Fro

If you’ve got big curly hair, this style is perfect for you. To achieve this look, keep your hair in its natural state, cut off all but 1 inch of the stem of your flower(s) of choice (we used an assortment) place the flowers in your hair in an unorganized pattern while concentrating them one side. Secure the flowers with bobby pins as needed.

Blooming Buns (not pictured)

Space buns are always cool. Amp them up with a bunch of baby’s breath. After parting your hair evenly down the middle and securing the sections into high buns on either side of your head, stick the baby’s breath into your hair until you are satisfied with its fullness. If you want to accomplish this look, head over to Publix to find these flowers.
