After a long week of midterms, papers and binge drinking coffee, spring break is finally upon us. This week, ‘Canes pack their bags and all head in different directions. From the Caribbean, to Europe, students choose a multitude of vacation destinations. A lot of it depends on what year you are in school.
Freshman
It is common for freshmen to return home for the first spring break of their college careers. It’s nice to escape the dorms for a week and sleep in a non-twin sized bed after eating a home cooked meal. Spring break isn’t the typical getaway for the large amount of students from the Northeast, since the beginning of March is still gray and cold, but at least there’s pizza and bagels.

Sophomore
Now that you’re adjusted to being away from home for an extended period of time, a lot of sophomores choose to forego returning home and opt for a more typical spring break. Bimini is a fan-favorite for underclassmen who are underage, as the drinking age in the Bahamas is 18. So many UM students go to Bimini, that it’s basically a week-long frat darty.
Cost: Ferry ticket to Bimini, lodging, food

Junior
Spring semester junior year is the most popular semester for ‘Canes to go abroad – a true ‘Canes fan wouldn’t dare miss a football season. For the juniors who stay at UM, this week is the perfect opportunity to visit friends abroad and take another country by storm.
Cost: International flight, hostel/Airbnb, food, souvenirs
If You Go: Appropriate clothes for the weather/culture of the country. Most places, like Europe, are cold this time of year. Pack jeans, sweaters, jackets and comfortable walking shoes
Senior
Living in Miami when you’re of age, and being able to get into any bar or club, is so much fun. This is why a lot of seniors choose to have a staycation and lounge on the beautiful beaches Miami has to offer.
Many seniors also book a half-week or week-long cruise, as some cruise lines require guests to be 21-years-old to book a room. Another popular option for the last spring break is Key West. The three-hour road trip is a lot cheaper than flying to Mexico or an island, and there is no need to travel to destination where the drinking age is lower.
Cost: Staycation = FREE; Cruise = room, drink package; Key West = gas money, lodging
