Crowds of people came together at Mana Wynwood yesterday, in the name of relief. Major Lazer, a DJ trio composed of Diplo, Jillionaire and Walshy Fire, held Relief is the Mission, a charity concert where all proceeds went to hurricane relief in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean Islands.
The Trio shared the stage with Ricky Remedy, Skip Marley, Tory Lanez, Machel Montano, Tarrus Riley and Bad Bunny. This impressive lineup featured artists for everyone, and one could feel the love in the air as each artist took the time to mention why everyone was there last night. “We will never forget where we come from. We are going to do this every time something happens in the Caribbean. The reason we are here today is for relief, relief is the mission,” said Jamaican native Walshy Fire.
Relief is the Mission is not the first concert held in Miami to provide aid to those in need after one of the most active hurricane seasons we have experienced in recent history. Somos Live, a telethon and benefit concert held this past weekend, also raised funds for hurricane victims, as well as those affected by the earthquake in Mexico. It’s a beautiful thing when the power music is used to do good – and it will be interesting to see what other artists step up to help those in need.
