The Rat, as it’s affectionately known on campus, celebrated its 40th birthday on Monday in style. Amongst all the orders of No-Yes Fries and pitchers of beer UM’s student body was treated to cupcakes and commemorative glasses. The sun was out and the crowds were big and happy. Overall it was a great day to sit back for a few hours and just take in the atmosphere that the Rat is known for.
Arguably the most popular place to hang out on campus, the Rathskellar is where memories are made. From birthdays to watch parties the campus watering hole has seen a fair number of events. After a two-year transitory period the Rat is preparing for a move to the new Student Activities Center this upcoming fall. The larger, updated space will allow for all sorts of events that are nearly impossible in the current location. Though the move is anticipated it doesn’t matter where the Rat happens to be, as long as students can still hang out.
