During the election year, we hear a lot about a candidate’s policy ideas, their stance on social issues and a lot of promises that most likely won’t be kept. Rarely is there an opportunity to feel connected to these people who want to lead and represent us. However, one can always count on music to bridge this great divide. Read between the lines(of lyrics) and you’ll get a true feel for who they are.

President Barack Obama: U2, Al Green and No Doubt
As I write this, the University of Miami is welcoming President Barack Obama onto the campus for a campaign rally. I’ve had the chance to previously attend his past rallies in Miami as a press member and have noticed he often, if not always, walks in with”City Of Blinding Lights” by U2 blasting overhead . He also invited U2 to perform at his inauguration concert. He does make some music of his own sometimes. We can all remember him singing a classic by Al Green, which went viral earlier in the 2012 campaign. Jay-Z was even inspired to invite the president to perform at a music festival.

Governor Mitt Romney: The Killers, Beach Boys
Who would’ve thought that the Gov. rocks out to The Killers? Believe it Brandon Flowers fans, it’s one of his favorite groups and it’s listed multiple times in his own playlist. The band’s frontman and Governor Romney also share a Mormon faith, which Flowers talks about here.
