February 25, 2012

As we’re sure you all heard, this Thursday, February 23rd, 2012, President Barack Obama visited the Coral Gables campus. The presidential visit included a tour of the College of Engineering’s Industrial Assessment Center, a project funded by the U.S. Department of Energy that according to the Miami Hurricane “has existed for 13 years, [and] has given recommendations to more than 200 South Florida corporations about how to increase industrial energy efficiency.”

After the tour, President Obama stopped by the Bank United Center Fieldhouse to make some remarks about energy efficiency, gas prices, and the economy. Assistant photo editor Kelly Smith and I (Devin Cordero, photoblog editor) were given the incredible opportunity to photograph the speech on behalf of Distraction, and we found ourselves intermingling on the bleachers with pro photographers and other student journalists alike.

Scroll down to take a glimpse through the lenses of two student photographers covering the event.
