Predicting 2022 in Style

Many trends may come and go, but some looks last forever. In 2021, we saw the rise of street style, various TikTok trends (i.e., the assassination of the skinny jean) and a return to vintage glamour, as seen at the most recent Met Gala. However, many fashion influencers claim that 2022 will be the year of the most intriguing trends we’ve seen yet. So, let’s take a dive into the new year and see just how much the world of style may evolve.

Pearls

According to top fashion magazines like Vogue Australia, pearls are making a significant comeback in 2022. This classic jewelry piece adds an elegant air to absolutely any outfit, whether it’s chic, edgy or just plain fabulous. Pearl earrings, necklaces, bracelets and even pearls sewn onto trousers and blouses are likely to be an absolute hit. Artists like Harry Styles, who wore a singular pearl earring to the 2020 Met Gala, showed how men could rock pearls too.

Micro Mini Skirts

There’s no such thing as “too short” in 2022! Vogue Magazine has officially declared that micro-mini skirts are on the rise. That’s right, as the Y2K style icon Paris Hilton once said, “Skirts should be the size of a belt.” Y2K fashion was already immensely popular in 2021 thanks to TikTok, but this year’s Micromania trend has the full spotlight.

Corsets

British Vogue recently announced that corsets are back in style. Sellers on sites like Depop have brought back the Victorian-era style that is now claiming the hearts of young fashionistas across the globe. If you’re looking for an elegant look but want to spice it up, choose a corset made of materials like denim or vegan leather. They’re selling quickly on almost every clothing site imaginable, so make sure you get your hands on one fast!

Belly Chains

Who What Wear has reported that yet another Y2K trend is back and here to stay in 2022! As seen on artists such as Christina Aguilera and Aaliyah, the iconic belly chain is officially trending once more. Pair this accessory with low-waisted jeans and a cute crop top for a look fit for a 2000s pop princess.

Etsy

While not exactly a trend, Etsy is home to many young creative sellers and is booming with popularity. Items such as homemade crop tops, eclectic earrings and even colorful fur coats are available for purchase. In 2022, if the style is stranger, it’s better, so get your hands on these one-of-a-kind pieces ASAP.

Color Pop

Colors such as neon yellow, hot pink, fiery orange and electric blue will likely dominate the runway this year. No surprise here! Bold colors are an excellent way to make a statement. If you’re wearing a little black dress, pair it with a gorgeous pair of bright-colored pumps to jazz up your look.

1960s Makeup

If you thought Y2K was vintage, then get ready to experience a major throwback. 1960s style makeup, particularly for the eyes, will likely be a significant focus for Spring and Summer of 2022. Graphic eyeliner, pastel eyeshadows and false eyelashes are a way to ensure that your makeup look is on-trend. Think Twiggy.

Cutouts

In 2022, the trick is to bear it all. French Vogue insists that slinky, skin-showing outfits will make style ooze with sex appeal. Get ready to see some sleeveless sweaters, crop tops and Bermuda shorts. These torso-bearing looks are going to allow men to experiment with this fashion this year as well. Yes, men: this is for you too. Get your sexy on, gents.

Snip Snip

Get out your pair of scissors, ladies! Just kidding. But sleek, sexy and shorter hair will be a key to slaying 2022 hair trends. It is important to note that shorter haircuts can have many different variations, but any cut that facilitates healthier hair is worth getting! In particular, the “bob” cut is “not going anywhere,” according to Vogue Magazine.

Athleisure

Athleisure has been a popular trend for years now, but it’s time to get creative with this classic. Printed leggings, playful crop tops and colorful sneakers are the perfect elements to crafting a casual but chic outfit for when you’re on the go. Just because you’re going to the gym doesn’t mean you don’t get to look stylish!
