Planet Kreyol, the Haitian student organization at the University of Miami, celebrated the unveiling of a time capsule that was placed in the ground by their 2004 Executive Board on Oct 30 at 6:00 p.m. in the School of Communications Courtyard. It was a joyous occasion where students, faculty, staff, and alumni came together to celebrate the organization’s history and future legacy.
The items found in the capsule were a Haitian flag, a news article from The Miami Hurricane in 2004 about Unity Day (an event that the organization used to organize), a University of Miami tuition bill from 2004, Haitian art and poetry, letters the students wrote to their future selves as well as future Planet Kreyol members and much, much more.
Guest speakers included Dr. Patricia Whitely, Daniel Best, Planet Kreyol’s advisor from 1999-2004 and the 2004 President of Planet Kreyol, Freslaine Tasha St. Louis.
This was a momentous occasion because a new time capsule was buried on behalf of Planet Kreyol and is scheduled to open in 20 years in Oct. 2034.
