Ouch…time for some closet cleaning!

While Miami students are gearing up for our Fall final exams and returning home to hot cocoa, ugly sweaters, and holiday cheer, the fashion industry, per usual, is ahead of the trends with some Spring cleaning – New York Fashion Week style.

While this semi-annual grand event doesn’t occur until February – don’t worry, it will be upon us soon enough – the event is receiving a makeover to become even more exclusive. If you don’t get an invite in the mail, it is because they are cutting lists, leaving many bloggers and reality “stars” out of the tents in the chilly New York weather. Yes, we are looking at you Basketball Wives.

Basically, the fashion industry has decided that they don’t want to spend one million – yes, million! – dollars for a single show lasting a grand total of ten entire minutes.

We got the inside scoop from UM alumni and Marie Claire Fashion Assistant Jonathan Borge on how the changes will effect the magazine industry.

Borge noted that the change “will definitely not go quietly.” He gave the example of last season when Oscar De La Renta severely cut down its seating, and “even some top, top, top editors had a tough time getting in.”

We’re expecting a fashion cat fight over those coveted invitations!

But, he notes the rule of fashion that if the shows are “cut down inside, something tells [him] the exclusivity will just attract more crowds on the outside.”
