Five days of classy high fashion has finally come to a close with the completion of the 2018 London Fashion Week. The most reserved and chic of the major fashion weeks, LFW brought muted colors, elegant patters and loose, flowy pieces. Each day was a perfect reflection of the city, especially with the surprise appearance of Queen Elizabeth on the final day. We’ve gone through the whole week and compiled our favorite looks from each day.
Day 1
Matty Bovan’s collection perfectly embodied the city of London with its dark plaid pieces. This outfit stood out because of the messy, grunge feeling it brings back from the infamous ‘90s London fashion scene. These types of patterns showed up many times throughout the week, indicating that it will be trend this fall.
This outfit from Bora Aksu exemplifies the elegance of the week. The frills on the dress and lace up booties are reminiscent of old England, but the layering of the dress and ankle length help modernize it.
FYODOR GOLAN was the first to introduce colors into the week, but the collection still incorporated darker tones at the same time. This look caught my eye due to the mix of athleisure and femininity. This type of versatile look became the theme of the week.
Day 2
Chalayan had the simplest show, but the most put together pieces. The folds and drapes of each piece looked wonderful on every model. For this look, the over lay perfectly frames the pattern of the dress underneath. The color of the shoes compliments the look, preventing it from being too monotone.
Osman had one of the brightest collections of the week. This jumpsuit transported the audience back to the 70s with the matching long, straight hair and chunky heels. It is refreshing to see a jumpsuit with long sleeves, as opposed to the low-cut ones that have been on trend lately.
Day 3
Mary Katrantzou’s collection was pure art. It was breath taking to see every pattern and intricate design and how the structured aspects of the designs made the models look like canvases. This outfit, in particular, reminded me of an art exhibit, framed by the buckles on the shoes and shoulder straps.
Temperarly London presented a collection that was quintessential London. Each outfit incorporated a rugged, androgynous aspect that is a famous look of London. My favorite outfit kept it classier with a white pantsuit and jacket, as well as the tucked in scarf.
Delpozo’s show was another colorful spot of the week. Often times yellow is reserved only for spring and summer, but this gorgeous dress was a happy exception. The footwear helps keep it appropriate for this time of year and the slicked back hair prevents the ruffles from seeming too busy.
Day 4
Erdem delivered the week’s most daring collection. While the colors were simple, the repetition of patterns and fabrics ran the risk of looking too monotone. However, Erdem was able to present looks that still interested the audience. For example, this dress still wows, despite all the polka dots, because the flower on the shoulder interrupts the repetition.
David Koma was able to make going out look classy by adding to a relatively basic idea. The skirt fringe and belt elevate the outfit from a simple party dress. And the mid-calf boots was the exact piece that the look needed to distinguish it from other designers.
Day 5
Teatum Jones had a collection full of loose fitting clothing, but each item had some kind of tuck or structure element that pulled it all together. This timeless look remained eye catching because of the floral dress underneath and the all too familiar fluffy loafers.
Emilio de la Morena did not disappoint with this bright dress – it literally popped off the runway. The two types of ruffles stop the dress from looking too playful and the matching shoes, contrary to popular opinion, actually make the outfit better.
This dress by Isa Afren was my favorite of the entire week. Designers have been obsessed with the loose, off the shoulder trend for a while, and this outfit does it perfectly. Her polished show was a beautiful end to a beautiful week.
