Letter from the Editor Issue 4

Editor’s Letter

Dearest Students of UM,

As I stumbled down Duval Street back to my hotel on the last night of my senior year spring break in Key West, I began walking backwards and waving my arm, yelling “Goodbye spring break! Goodbye college! I had fun! I’ll miss you!”

Was I drunk? Yes. But that is beside the point. After four years at Miami, spring break almost felt like the end of my years of debauchery. I have to grow up and be an adult now. You know, responsibilities and all that jazz.

But the more I thought about it, the more I realized, the end of college isn’t the end of fun. Yes, it makes it a little harder to get drunk at two in the afternoon on a Thursday, but it doesn’t mean I’m going to spend my weekends crocheting and listening to classical music.

I’ll still beg my friends to do Power Hour. I’ll still claim to hate chick flicks, but watch Lifetime incessantly. I’ll still read my favorite celebrity blogs like it’s nobody’s business. And bowling will continue to be my favorite Sunday night activity.

No matter how old I get, my vices will remain intact. And that is what this issue is all about: vice. We know you have them. We all do. Maybe you like to drink in the shower. Or perhaps you listen to Britney on full blast when all of your roommates are gone. Could there be a chance you spend more on footwear than food?

We here at Distraction decided it was time to celebrate all of these so-called vices. Life would be so utterly boring without vice. And if there is one thing Miami students are not, it’s dull.

So pour yourself a bottle of wine, light up whatever you’re smoking and enjoy this issue of Distraction while watching VH1. We won’t judge.

To Vice!

**Editor’s Note: This issue is intented to be a window into the world of vice that exists in Miami and college in general. In no way is Distraction promoting these behaviors.
