King & Queen Pageant – Homecoming 2017

As Homecoming continues throughout the week, the Homecoming Executive Committee (HEC) held its King and Queen Pageant titled “The Fairest of Them All”. Contestants representing their organizations, were tasked to perform talents and skits, as well as answer questions having to do with their time at the U, to compete for the crown.

With the theme of “The Magic in U” in mind, contestants had to center their skits around magic which many used to incorporate the spirit of homecoming and its effect on the university. With stories and films like The Princess and the Frog, Jack and the Beanstalk, Snow White, and many more acting as backdrops for their skits, contestants did a great job in bringing together all aspects of homecoming together. From talking ducks to singing princes, each skit showcased their passion for the U as well as greatly entertaining the crowd.

The contestants also performed their talents which offered a great variety of performances which included poetry slam, Kung Fu, violin playing, dancing, singing, and many more. These talents proved the contestants to be more than just your average student, deeply involved in their craft.

Old-Fashion, pageant style questions were the last bit of the night that ultimately determined who would acquire the crown. The questions varied, but each answer was passionate as they looked back at their time here at UM.
