If you’re a regular reader of our print issues, you know Distraction has a deep appreciation for South Beach’s SLS hotel, one of Miami’s greatest and latest destinations. Sure, its outdoor entrance is nothing short of glamorous – think lush red carpets and freshly polished Lamborghinis and Maseratis adorning the valet driveway – and welcomes the world’s most fabulous jet setters. Sure, Hyde Beach has become, hands down, among the best late-night spots to grab a drink and mingle with A-list celebrities such as Tracy Morgan and Julianne Hough – let’s also not forget that larger-than-life-sized platinum duck sitting at the pool’s deck. After all, the SLS did make it onto Conde Nast Traveler’s famed Hot List for 2013.
But this month, it’s not the whimsical decor or hot crowd we’re raving about. Instead, it’s the food. As graduation approaches, seniors are all beginning to search for celebration dinner options, and Katsuya at the SLS is offering one of this season’s greatest menus. The restaurant’s look was mastered by none other than design superstar Phillipe Stark, and it easily blends into the hustle and bustle of the property’s hallways. Inside, sushi chef Katsuya Uechi whips up sushi and sashimi platters in addition to unique sushi hand rolls. Must-haves include the crispy soft shell crab and the yellow tailed sashimi with jalapeno – traditionally Japanese choices with an American punch.
For those looking to order a celebratory drink, the restaurant serves up plenty of sake and out-of-the-ordinary cocktails with names like Vitamin A and Crimson Spice. The best part? You can indulge in a free dessert by simply showing your newly-earned diploma. Cheers to that!
