The Rat was loud with laughter and cheers Thursday night thanks to comedian Jay Pharaoh’s hilarious performance. From beginning to end, he had the crowd rowdy with amusement. HP Daytime, the event organizers, hit the jackpot with this act.
The former SNL actor, who will soon be starring in Showtime’s new series “White Famous”, brought a little bit of everything to his show. He showed off his spot-on impressions of celebrities like Jay-Z and Kanye West, to politicians like Barack Obama and Ben Carson. He also shared funny stories about wild party experiences, catching Indian scammers in the act, and going through puberty.
Pharaoh interacted with a few of the audience members as well. One student from Iceland took the comedian by surprise when he knew all the lyrics to a Tupac song. At one point he comically called out someone trying to leave the show early, demanding that he sit back down. Each exchange kept everyone dying with laughter.
Students filled up every seat was taken and the upstairs area had lots of people. Some were even planted on the floor. Pharaoh had some difficulties with the wire of the microphone he was using but nonetheless, his struggles made for humorous interruptions.
He ended the set almost an hour and half later by showing off his rap skills and shooting a selfie video of everyone cheering in the background. He invited people to come outside and take pictures with him, which resulted in a mini mob. However, Pharaoh kept a cool attitude throughout.
All in all, the show was lots of fun. The diverse mix of jokes and Pharoah’s entertaining personality kept the venue buzzing.
We’re excited to see what else HP Daytime has coming up for us this semester. If you are too, follow them on Instagram @hp_daytime and like their page on Facebook to keep up with their events!
