Janelle Monae Comes to the Fillmore Miami

Untitled-3_FLAT

Janelle Monae’s second studio album, The Electric Lady, incorporates pop, jazz, funk and rhythm and blues into a dynamic compilation of songs that encompass themes of love, pride, heartbreak and other staples.

Monae’s debut EP, Metropolis: Suite I (The Chase), introduced Monae’s alter ego, an android named Cindi Mayweather. Her first full-length album, The ArchAndroid, and The Electric Lady continue the storyline inspired by the 1927 science fiction film Metropolis.

The album includes features by Prince, Cee Lo Green, Solange Knowles, Erykah Badu and other musical greats. Since The Electric Lady’s release in September, Monae has hit the road with her signature black and white suit, red lips and bouffant updo on a tour across the US. Attendees of her show in Miami on November 23 should expect lots of energy, fancy footwork and a lively band and dancers.

However, Monae may have over-exerted herself, as she had to postpone three of her shows in early November. Monae posted a note on her website detailing doctor’s orders that she must rest her voice in order to avoid damage to her vocal cords. But after being on a strenuous tour as well as performing on Saturday Night Live and other awards shows, it comes as no surprise that Monae could use a break.

Fans of Monae will not be disappointed with The Electric Lady and new listeners will be enchanted by her soulful vocals and compelling lyrics.
