It’s All About Astrology

Distraction Magazine’s “Astrology with Alexis” podcast is a beginner’s guide to all things astrology. In the words of its magnetic host Alexis Masciarella, listen to the episodes to “unlock all the secrets of astrology and use them to your advantage.”

“It’s such a great little time capsule of my life,” said Masciarella, a 2021 University of Miami graduate, of her show. “It’s such a fun project that I can look back on and really cherish, because it’s about astrology but also involves a little bit of my personal life.”

The inspiration behind her brainchild began when Masciarella coined an idea for a weekly astrology column with Distraction. However, after penning the first draft, she realized the series would be way more entertaining and funny if it were formatted as a year-long podcast.

“Learning about astrology is similar to learning a foreign language,” Masciarella said. While that can be overwhelming and confusing at times, she said there are many tools to assist newcomers, such as online articles, websites and Instagram pages (author’s pick: @moonomens).

Masciarella got into astrology because she wanted to learn more about herself and others, specifically the people she’s closest to. She started out by downloading Co–Star, a popular astrology app that allows you to follow your entire birth chart.

For readers who don’t know what a birth chart is, Masciarella provided a brief overview: “Your birth chart is the alignment of the planets in reference to your birth, including the day, location and time.”  To better understand this concept, she recommended listening to her inaugural podcast episode, “Explaining the Planets.”

When it comes to her favorite signs, Masciarella said she loves Pisces and Sagittarius signs. “But with men, I can’t speak too much because I don’t have a lot of experience with them,” she remarked.

“All of my friends who are Pisces women are the sweetest people I’ve ever met. They’re so comforting and empathetic,” she mentioned. She said she also loves that Sagittarius signs are always down for absolutely anything. She enjoys befriending them because they are very loyal people who don’t cause drama.

All 24 episodes of “Astrology with Alexis” are streamable for free on Spotify. And keep an eye out for the final episode of the year, which launches next Monday and will cover Gemini season! Give it a listen to dive deep into this sign and the characteristics of Geminis.
