I Ate Food From Celebrity Chef Jen-Georges Vongerichten While Listening To Action Bronson

Española way is a two-block tree-lined pedestrian street in South Beach’s Art Deco district and this weekend it was home to the South Beach Wine and Food Festival’s Midnight Eats, hosted by Jean-Georges Vongerichten and Action Bronson.

For those who are unfamiliar, Jean-Georges Vongerichten is an award-winning international restaurateur, cookbook author and TV personality. According to his website, Vongerichten started his culinary journey in a work-study program at Auberge de l’Ill (a 3-star Michelin restaurant) as an apprentice to Chef Paul Haeberlin. Vongerichten continued his career at L’Oasis under chef Paul Bocuse and Master Chef Louis Outhier. Through his travels, Vongerichten developed a taste for exotic flavors and dishes and now has opened around nine restaurants across the globe including ABC Kitchen, Jean-Georges, On the Rocks in St. Barths, the Matador Room, Market at Edition and more.

While some might think Action Bronson is just a musician, the man also knows his way around the kitchen. As host of F*ck That’s Delicious and the Untitled Action Bronson Show (both on Viceland) Bronson meets famous chefs and eats at some of the finest eateries around.

There were cocktails from Patron Tequila, Heinekens all around, heavy pours of Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Merlot from 1865 Selected Vineyard. Bites from local restaurants like Tipsy pops, who served a strawberry margarita pop, and a coffee liqueur pop (10/10 highly recommend.) Dos Croquetas was dishing out

Our favorite bite of the night was Jean-Georges’s own Popcorn Cheddar Frico topped with shaved black truffles and chives (which was featured recently in an episode of the Untitled Action Bronson Show). As for drinks, we aren’t picky, but a patron margarita always does the trick.

Throughout the night Action Bronson spun beats and encouraged the crowd to get onto the dancefloor– which they did.

To make your own Frico, follow along with Jean-Georges himself from the event in this Food Network Facebook Live video or follow these simple steps.

  1. Melt Cheddar Cheese in a non-stick skillet over medium heat until bubbly.
  2. Top the still bubbling cheese (in the skillet) with pre-popped popcorn (the microwave stuff is fine.)
  3. Let the popcorn set into the cheese for a few minutes in the skillet
  4. Flip the frico upside down onto a heat-safe plate
  5. Top with shaved black truffles (if you could swing it) & chives

While we loved the taste of the fresh truffle, we tend to ball out on a budget, so the trader joe’s truffle oil will have to do for us. Whatever way you make it, get your frico on.
