Haute and High-style: A Guide to Halloween Fashion

halloween-1

Halloween is not just for the kids! Take a page from the Mean Girls Cady Herron playbook and go all out because even though you are certainly too old to be trick-or-treating, you can still treat yourself to a fashionably fabulous costume.

The fun is finding the elements of the perfect costume. And, just so we are clear, dressing like Lady Gaga is so last year (#pleasedon’t).

Runway Inspired
If you are a make-up wiz, might we suggest inspiration from this season’s most talked about runway trend – Vivianne Westwood’s London Fashion week mask-like makeup. No need for plastic surgery to put on an alternate face for the night! The zombie apocalypse is super fashionable now. Even better, coordinate with your friends for a fashionable zombie army to take over The Grove.

Celeb Inspired
Taking over for Gaga this year will be Kate Middleton. Her famous blue polka-dot dress she wore during the royal baby debut paired with pumps and her blue sapphire ring is the outfit to imitate this Halloween to show everyone you’re as fashion forward as the fashionable foreign highness. We’ll leave the decision about a baby up to you.

Pinterest Inspired
Pinterest is the mecca of fashion inspiration and this definitely includes creative Halloween costumes. These Vitamin Water dresses made out of duct tape are the absolute most amazing costume we may have ever seen! Our other favorites include the sexy i-pod costumes and the Angry Birds reincarnation. You can find further inspiration on the site appropriately titled “Coolest Homemade Costumes.”

Last-Minute Save
Yes, we know you are busy with your studies! For those of you doubting your own creativity skills or feeling a time crunch, you can head over to the nearby Party City and choose between crime-fighting Batgirl (or maybe you are just fighting off all the guys at The Grove), Adult Dragon Lady, or if all else fails, bewitch as a witch.

Tweet us a photo of your costumes to @distractionum. Most creative costume wins tickets to the Jake Miller concert on Friday, November 1st at 7pm (courtesy of our friends at WVUM). Winners will be announced Friday morning!
