Guide to NYC Summer Intern Life

Have a hot internship in New York City this summer? Look no further and let Distraction’s very own PR Managers show you the ropes.

Where to live?

If you can, live in the NYU dorm apartments. They’re worth the extra amount as it comes with the home essentials — you really can’t survive without a refrigerator or a microwave. Also, with all the food NYC has to offer you’ll be thankful for the NYU gym. An added bonus is the student discounts for all the museums in the city with your NYU ID.

Local Essentials

Figuring out the subway system isn’t so bad with the help of Google Maps. The best way to get around the city is to use the subway so buying an unlimited subway pass is worth every penny. Side note: Keep your headphones in or else you’ll find a stranger trying to talk to you.

Yelp, Zagat, Resy and seamless are all food related apps that are a must. With the vast variety of restaurants in NYC using yelp or Zagat can help you figure out what’s the move. Resy and/or Opentable are the best tools to plan a successful dinner. And finally but most importantly Seamless, the macdaddy of delivery in NYC, where delivery fees are zero and the restaurant options are wide.

Don’t know what to do? Subscribe for The Skint! They send daily emails sharing the best free and inexpensive events in NYC including food and drinks, concerts, movies, comedy, art, sales, exclusive giveaways and so much more.

In Manhattan, there’s always a lot going on so deciding on one place can be difficult. Phebes and B-Bar are the two go-to spots where all the summer interns like to get together. If thats not your style, finding more sophisticated and trendy rooftops, like Le Bain or PHD, are great ways to see more of the city and party at great heights.

Pro-tips:

Keep the “Empire State of Mind” because it is New York City, after all – the city that never sleeps.

Live up to the mantra for your 8-10 weeks tenure and take advantage of everything it has to offer.
