Go from Collegiate to Cubicle

When we think about our college wardrobes, we’re usually concerned with the amount of crop tops we own or how many different colors of Nike track shorts we can buy. We are so worried about looking cute when we’re at the Grove that we often neglect to buy something that is vital to any college students’ wardrobe: professional wear.

Have no fear, there are many of ways to get around this. Plenty of your everyday pieces can be translated into professional wear. Follow these simple tips and you’ll never go into hyperventilation again when you get that impromptu interview.

  1. Adding a blazer or an elegant cardigan to a simple sundress can easily turn it suitable for the office. Make sure the dress is an appropriate length and not too revealing on top. Add some simple jewelry and a pair of medium height heels to finish off the look.
  2. Colored denim can easily transition from the street to the office. Adding a blousy plain colored top and a statement necklace in a coordinating color will make the look more sophisticated. Finish it off with nude flats for a classy take on a business-casual look. This tip also works great with a patterned, tailored pant.
  3. Circle skirts are your friends. Match it with an oxford and nude pumps for a chic professional look. Bonus points if the shirt is chambray or an unexpected color. Throw on a statement necklace and a large leather tote and you’re ready to go.

The funny thing about opportunity is you never know when it’s going to knock. So while professional wear may be the furthest thing on your mind when you’re scouring the sales rack at Urban Outfitters, there’s always a way to make your current items work for, well, work.
