Food Truck Madness

If you’re already getting sick of the food court, it’s time you check out the food trucks by Dooly and the Engineering building. The food ranges from burgers, to tacos, to kabobs.  Not feeling what they’re serving one day of the week? Go back the next day for something new!

The Purple People Eatery probably has one of the most diverse menus a food truck can offer. Try their mac and cheese for a homey treat or their burgers if you’re really hungry. //Source: Instagram @aligaudiosi

Monday: Purple People Eatery

Originating in Mississippi, their idea was to take gourmet street food to the Miami food truck scene. The chef, David Shipman, studied psychology at our very own University of Miami. Eager to do something different, he left college to enroll at Le Cordon Bleu in Miramar, a culinary arts college. After a few years of working at some of Miami’s top restaurants, he decided to start his own food truck. Chef Michelle Duncan has worked in top restaurants in LA, South Beach, and Midtown Miami. Their menu features a variety of grass-fed bison burgers, Mahi tacos, fish & chips, and boasts mac and cheese and fries as sides, both with quail egg, truffle oil, and bacon as additional add-ons.

Tuesday: Che Grill

Che Grill specializes in Argentinian cuisine and bringing it through Miami. Their food is made with quality-grilled meats as well as fresh baked bread and their empanadas are all made with fresh and wholesome ingredients. If you’re looking for a quick snack, order an empanada. Their fillings range from meats to vegetables, to guava and cream cheese. If you’re looking for something more filling, order a steak sandwich covered in their special Chimichurri sauce or one of their house specialties, the Lomito Sandwich. This features a churrasco steak grilled and topped with a fried egg and other toppings. If you’re still hungry, get some French fries fried in Chimichurri sauce.

Wednesday: Empanada Top

Celebrate hump day with some delicious empanadas. They’re $3.50 each, or three for $10, or if you’re having a really bad day order twelve for 36 dollars, because whats better than twelve empanadas? Nothing. They have a variety of fillings, such as beef, chicken, pork, shrimp, onion and cheese, and spinach. Or if you’re really feeling Autumn-y, order a corn one: filled with corn, pumpkin, béchamel sauce, cheese, and veggies. Mmm empanadas.

Maybe one of the most sought after food trucks, Moty’s Grill has a lot of tasty options. The portion sizes are huge and will keep you full through all your classes.  //Source: Instagram @iflymia

Thursday: Moty’s Grill Mediterranean food

Moty’s grill is not specifically Kosher certified, but they use only high-quality kosher ingredients and practice Kashrut in their cooking. Their Middle Eastern cuisine offers top quality kosher meats and all food prepared from scratch and cooked to order. Their menu features falafel salad, pita pockets with schnitzel or chicken shawarma, beef kabobs, and kibbes, among many more. Their portions are generous and their pita bread is so soft you’ll want to use it as a pillow.

Friday: Vibe 305

What better way to kickstart your weekend than by scarfing down a nice burger and fries? Their food truck menu also has fish, pork, or fish quesadillas/tacos, as well as chicken wings and mozzarella sticks for sides. In addition to your traditional hamburger, they have ground Chuck & Chorizo, a veggie Portobello mushroom burger, pulled pork, crab cake sandwiches, and a seafood sandwiches. In addition to serving great food, the café/food truck is run as a training job development program for men ranging from the ages of 12-18, giving them a hands-on experience so that towards the end of the training, they can start their own Vibe 305 franchise.

Disclaimer: These are not the only food trucks that show up! Sometimes they’ll be a new one. Don’t be surprised if you see something totally different. Try it out, it might be your new favorite.
