Located all over South Florida (including campus), Farmer’s Markets are a great way to save money, eat healthy, and support local industry! Glaser Organic Farms in Coconut Grove: Located on Grand Avenue just steps from your favorite Thursday night watering holes, the Glaser Organic Farmer’s Market is open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., rain or shine. Glaser Farm has been certified organic for over thirty years, refusing to use pesticides in its endeavors to uphold the highest health standards for its raw, vegan foods. From exotic tropical fruits to everyday vegetables and herbs, even the pickiest eaters will be able to find something fresh and healthy.

Coral Gables Farmer’s Market: In front of the historic City Hall lies a festive open-air market with so much more to do than just shop. Running every Saturday morning from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. now through March, the Coral Gables Farmer’s Market boasts free Tai Chi classes at 8 a.m., live music, the freshest produce, homemade baked goods, and food samples from local restaurants.

Lincoln Road: The trek over to Lincoln Road may seem daunting and unnecessary until you remember that we live in 80 degree weather year round and Lincoln Road a skip and a jump away from the beach, making this market the winner for most beautiful locale. Between Washington Avenue and Meridian Avenue, the Lincoln Road Farmer’s Market runs year round on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and has the staple produce as well as fresh bread and homemade jellies. After you buy your produce, make a pit-stop by the beach – the bright sunlight increases your intake of Vitamin D, helping fight against infection and illness.

Well ‘Canes: Although it may well be the smallest market on this list, it’s easily the most convenient. A great option for those who live on campus without access to a car, the Well ‘Canes Farmer’s Market – held on Wednesdays between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the walkway between the UC and Richter library – offers a full array of baked goods, spices and specialty foods in addition to the customary fruits and vegetables. Pick up a delicious quiche for lunch and an imaginatively decorated cupcake for dessert, but make sure you get some curry spices and veggies to make yourself a scrumptious and nutritious dinner.

Pinecrest Gardens: The Miami New Times has called it the Best Farmer’s Market in Miami, so this nearby location is a must-see. Not only can you bulk up on fruits, vegetables, spices, local honey, local goose eggs, organic hummus, and artisan breads, but jewelry and other goods are on full display. Open on Sundays year round from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., its lush, tropical garden is a very big plus.

Yellow Green Market in Hollywood: Yes, it’s definitely the farthest location. But what it lacks in convenience, it makes up in variety and size. With over 300 booths, you’ll find a bounty of seasonal produce and artisanal goods to make your mouth water and keep your body in tip-top shape. Check it out on Saturdays and Sundays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
