Fashion Spotlight: Diya Vasudevan

Meet this week’s Fashion Icon of the Week: Diya Vasudevan!
Instagram: @diyadiary
Class: Class of 2018
Major: Journalism, Political Science & International Studies

You’d think by the fourth year of college one would start slacking on their everyday style, but not Diya Vasudevan, a senior who’s studying Journalism, Political Science, and International Studies. Although you may have seen her dressed professionally as an anchor on UMTV’s Newsvision, she’s also great at pairing casual essentials, like denim skirts and white t-shirts, with “embroidered jeans or a [beaded] mesh top.” Here’s what this timeless and trendy fashionista has to say about her style:

“My style was initially quite European, but now after living in America, I have gravitated to simpler pieces from Brandy and Pacsun, which I then combine with my quirky buys from Zara and Topshop. I’m also more into classic pieces because I live out of my suitcase; I’m a minimalist out of necessity, and that’s framed my style. You’ll only ever catch me wearing pearls or diamonds with fine gold or silver necklaces, nothing that has a life span shorter than mine. I like pieces that will look good today but also 5 years down the line.”

Diya’s love for denim goes way back. She says her “go to piece of clothing is and will always be a statement denim skirt.” When Diya was younger, she looked for skirts that flared out. Then, she gradually shifted towards A-line and is currently searching for a more fitted mini.

We’re so glad she shared her style with us, and we know that she will be rocking the UM sidewalks all the way until graduation!
