The Farmers Market is the best thing about hump day here at UM. It features local, fresh produce as well as delicious international cuisine. Many of you have probably seen the line from the Acai Bowl stand. If you’d like to expand your horizons or just not have to wait in line until you have created a puddle of sweat on the ground, here are some places to go besides the Acai Bowl stand. They are also my favorite ways to blow my paycheck.
Sill Pies
Sill Pies was founded by Pastry Chef Daviel Escallon in Miami, his hometown, with the goal of creating a job for his brother Dariviel, who has special needs. They feature both individual and large pies, although only the individual pies are sold at the market. They have unique flavors such as Apple with chai spice, Mango Cilantro, Strawberry-Basil, Guava y Queso, Cocoa Vino, and Coquito. Individual pies are six dollars but you can also order them in bulk or order large pies for delivery. This is the perfect end to your Farmers Market lunch or on it’s own, because, in my world, it’s always pie time.
Argentinian Pierogies
As you may know, pierogies are essentially unleavened dough filled with little pieces of heaven. At this stand, heaven comes in the form of caprese, spinach and mozzarella, spicy chicken, and steak. The nice man behind the stand happily grills your pierogi right in front of you so it’s fresh and warm. He then tops it with amazing and perfectly seasoned chimichurri sauce. Mmmmm pierogies.
Chia Ballz
Chia pudding is another health craze people seem to love. Made from chia seeds and almond milk, the pudding is topped with coconut cream, bananas, berries, and delicious chia and cacao nibs. It’s healthy, which means you can eat five and still feel good about yourself. It’s a cool treat while also keeping your bikini body in check. What else do you need in Miami?
Gyro-Licious
Gyro-licious has amazing authentic Greek food with fresh ingredients. They mainly feature, of course, Gyros. You can order one (or ten) filled with Gyro meat, chicken, half Gyro meat/half chicken, Philly Cheese steak, or veggies. Each gyro is also served with lettuce, tomato, onion, and Tzatziki sauce on a beautifully soft, pillowy, grilled pita. They also have Greek salads, orzo salad, spinach pies, and delicious baklava to end your tasty meal of Greek cuisine.
Now, go hit up these lovely places the next time the farmer’s market comes and spend all of your money so we can all feel less guilty about all the money we spent.
