Yeah, your usual spot to eat near campus is good and all, but have you ventured away from coral gables recently? If not, look no further than Lil Havana, for a lil restaurant that goes by the name Doceprovisions. Apart from luring me in with its amazing reviews on Yelp, the restaurant also caught my attention when it made an appearance on Guy Fieri’s TV show Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. Tucked at the back of the restaurant is an outside seating area that makes you feel comfortable and home-y. Ivy and art cover the walls and alley to disguise the industrial-ness of the patio in plain sight. The menu had so many interesting and delicious sounding options to choose from that it was somewhat frustrating for me to make an order because I knew that I was going to be missing out on some of their dishes.
Luckily, I went with the only person I know that can eat as much as me, my dad. So we were able to order a couple things. (Side note: As a college student, going to breakfast/lunch/dinner with parents is just an opportunity you cannot pass up. Being in the comforting presence of family during the stress of school is one thing, but getting a free meal on top of that? Now that’s just unbeatable) We ordered their:
- award-winning chorizo croquetas
- maduro tostones
- short rib tacos
- cuban sandwich
- calentado w/short rib vaca frita, fried egg, sweet plantain, black beans, and jasmine rice
From our choices, I have to say my favorites were the croquetas and the Cuban sandwich. Living in Miami for a couple years now, I have had my fair share of Cuban food, however at Doce they offer it with a bit of a twist, which I’ve fallen in love with. Needless to say, I will be back for more soon.
