Catching the Circa Waves

Kieran Shudall, Joe Falconer, Colin Jones and Sam Rourke together make up British Indie Rock band Circa Waves.

“Sam plays bass, Colin plays drums, and Joe, or Joseph depending on how you’re feeling, plays guitar and wears his pants really high,” Shudall, guitar player and lead vocalist, told us.

What prompted Shudall to start doing music in the first place was that music was something he always enjoyed.

“I recorded some demos, sent them in, and it seemed like a good excuse to start a band.” And, Circa Waves was born.

Originating in Liverpool, England, the crew met there and practiced and rehearsed in various places.

“We got along really well. I thought they were some pretty talented musicians, and we went from there,” Shudall explained.

Shudall described the band’s primary genres with indie and rock ‘n’ roll with some punk vibes.

“You could say we get our inspiration from punk, rock, and jazz, but our music is all about the craft. We’ve been inspired by bands such as Bombay Bicycle Club, but we like keeping it fresh, and we want to build up a really good following and a good fan base.”

The band’s debut album, “Young Chasers” just dropped and one of Shudall’s favorite songs is a track called Talking Out Loud.

“It shows our progression as a band, and I think fans will enjoy it. I’m not sure really [what the song is about]. You’ll have to sit and listen to it and figure it out for yourself.”

Circa Waves doesn’t want their primary fan base to come from one area, but all over, according to Shundall.

“We’re not settling for the UK or America. We want to be huge around the world! World domination is the only thing for us,” Shundall said.

Although they are most known in Europe, they are slowly permeating other markets, America being their next target.

“We’ve enjoyed playing gigs, but we ready to get the record out and communicate more with the fans. We’re going to be playing in some festivals this summer. It should be great,” Shundall said.

When it comes to a tour, Circa Waves is still working out the kinks.

“We don’t have any tour plans set in stone yet,” Shudall explained, “but we’re hopefully getting ready to send some stuff over, like our album, [to America].”

Make sure you catch Circa Waves on Spotify, SoundCloud and YouTube to hear some of their music, or, buy their new album here.  It’s a ride you don’t want to miss.
