Bow Down to the Queen

Distraction Fashion had the chance to chat with homecoming queen Rebecca (Becky) Taylor for some insight into her thoughts about what’s trending on campus and what it is like to be Queen Hurricane!

This is cliché, but we have to ask. What has been your favorite part of the homecoming queen experience?

My favorite part of the Homecoming Queen experience, aside from the fun photo shoot, has been the support I’ve felt from my sisters of Kappa Kappa Gamma!  This is now the third year in a row that a KKG sister has won Homecoming Queen and I feel really proud that I was able to do this for my chapter.

What was your first reaction upon hearing your name called during homecoming?

It was so exciting!  The whole experience was definitely a little bit out of my comfort range, but I wanted to do it for KKG.  It was pretty time consuming learning the opening dance, preparing the spirit skit with my partner, Deandre Tate-Drummer from UBS, practicing the talent round, and figuring out how I’d make it to the evening gown section without totally messing up my hair!  I felt very grateful that all of that hard work had paid off!

So we heard you received some BCBGeneration swag! How are you incorporating the pieces into your daily attire?

The black quilted leather bag that I received from BCBGeneration is really cute and versatile.  I usually wear my mom’s vintage leather Coach bags on a day-to-day basis, but this new BCBGeneration bag is much better for dressier events or going out!

Why do you feel BCBGeneration is a well-loved brand among college students?

It has a youthful feel to it without coming across as immature.  As college students, we’re sort of at an in between stage – no longer kids, but not exactly in the work place yet.  It’s nice to find clothes to fit this medium.

What is your top fashion trend you’re incorporating into your wardrobe?

I love oversized, lightweight, floppy sweaters!  They’re not too hot when walking class to class and perfect for cuddling up in the air conditioning.

How would you describe your typical style?

I’ve been trying to develop a conservative and feminine style. Even though we’re living in sweltering Miami heat, I try to stay away from short shorts and tank tops.  I think there is more room for stylistic expression when you’re wearing a bit more fabric!

What is one change you would make if you were queen of the fashion industry?

I would make cheeky shorts go away forever!!

Like Becky, we’re loving BCBGeneration’s modern reflection on feminity and toughness filled with quirky prints and ranging silhouettes.
