Art Basel, like Christmas Day, is much anticipated, exciting, and you never really know what you’re going to get.
Luckily, most of the events for Art Basel are free. There are some extremely neat events and things opening such as The Museum of Ice Cream, but the admission for that is around $40. So, if you aren’t a broke college student, I would highly recommend to go to this!
There are countless free events that you can go to. Bayfront Park is featuring Julio Larraz Sculpture Exhibit, by the Nader Art Museum Latin America, with nine large-scale works.
Next up we have the brand new, newly opened museum in South Beach called The Bass with plenty of new exhibits opening up for everyone to enjoy. The Miami Design District is also another hot spot to go to.
Opening on Dec. 4, we have The DAM installation at Sugar. The Directed Art Modern is presenting an installation at Sugar.
Opening on Dec. 5, the Wynwood Walls again will unveil more than a dozen new walls by renown street artists. Wynwood is fun even without Art Basel happening, and with it happening, there will be so many people and more artists, more walls, live music, and above all, new art. Who wouldn’t want to go to that?
Opening Dec. 6 is the Basel House Mural Festival. This is a three-night block party featuring live music, more than 60 local and international artists creating murals, magic shows, food trucks and a virtual-reality playground.
Opening on Dec. 7 is the Miami Street Photography Festival. Photographs from more than 50 countries focusing on documentary images from the streets is at HistoryMiami Museum.
The Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) has a couple of free events. They are free on Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Dec. 9.
Last but certainly not the least, there are Art Basel Film presentations at 8 p.m., outdoors at New World Center SoundScape Park.
All of these options are free, so get your creative thinking cap on, and go look at some cool photography, abstract art, and admire all of the artists that took hours on end to make it.
