Everyone’s favorite (or least favorite) holiday is quickly approaching, and if you’ve got a significant other that you’re looking to impress, you’d better take them out. Gentlemen, take note: take her someplace where she’ll brag to her friends. You won’t regret it.
Situated in the quaint neighborhood dubbed “The Roads” is Miami’s newest French-fusion restaurant, Nothing but the Best. The bold name is a dead giveaway that you’ll be in for a treat.
The ambiance is set from the moment one walks through the outdoor patio— where al fresco dining at an umbrella-adorned table is a must when the weather is nice. Inside, candles flickering on each table cast a warm glow on the many pieces of art and sculpture. Modern and elegant, the space still manages to create a cozy atmosphere.
The best part? While this place is no TGI Friday’s, you won’t break the bank on a nice dinner for two. UM students will feel sophisticated and worldly surrounded by Miami’s upperclass, but will be sipping on wine for a mere $28 per bottle.
French chef Yann Rio is the owner and executive chef of Nothing but the Best. Rio is no stranger to exquisite cuisine. He worked at two and three starred Michelin starred restaurants in France. When it comes to food, Rio is something of an innovator— his plates are not strictly French, but he borrows from the culture’s renowned fare to create unique flavors that will remind travelers of France, but a hint of something else, as well. Namely, his foods are less heavy; instead of cream and butter, Rio opts for more yogurt and olive oil. The pedigree of excellence is evident in each dish served, from the Risotto Croquettes appetizers to the Espresso Tiramisu that ends the meal.
Single for the big day? The restaurant has a fully stocked bar and lounge so you can still celebrate in style. Be sure to finish (or start) the night off with one of the many selections of wine, champagne or cocktails and you’ll have a happy V-Day no matter what your relationship status.
