It’s halfway through October and, though our minds are on Fall Break, we can’t forget about Pinktober. The National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is still in full swing, with several fundraising events occurring in the coming weeks. Whether you have directly been affected by breast cancer or not, honor the women in your family and find a way to contribute to this wonderful cause. Together, we can help save the ta-tas!
Bloomingdale’s PINK party – Thursday, October 17, 6-9pm
Meet some of Miami’s biggest names in fashion blogging as well as author Marisa Acocella Marchetto, Bob and Linda Carey of The Tutu Project and visual designer Luis Valenzuela with his Little Pink Bag couture project, all partnering with Bloomingdale’s Aventura to raise awareness and fight against breast cancer. The bloggers, as well as models, will show off the Peace Love World collection, which will donate 10 percent of its proceeds to the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Foundation.
Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure – Saturday, October 19, 8:30am
The Susan G. Komen foundation hosts it 19th annual 5k walk/run this Saturday, October 19th at Bayfront Park in Downtown. Online registration is $35 for walkers and $40 for runners, which will go towards free mammograms for women, medical treatments for those who cannot afford it, support groups and research. Overall, it is a very rewarding and emotional experience seeing all these survivors and family members come together. To join them, register here at the official website or you can make a donation without attending the event.
Educate Yourself
Do not think you are too young or too healthy to be informed. Men and women should all be aware; breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women. If you have a close family member who has been diagnosed, you should consider being checked earlier than everyone else. The University of Miami Hospital is a great resource for learning more about the Breast Care Center.
Gear Up
Avoid any post-purchase guilt by combining shopping and a good cause. Choose a witty shirt by Save the Ta-tas or the “Hello Lady” t-shirts available at the Elvis Duran Morning Show shop. Support your favorite team simultaneously by purchasing some gear from the NFL shop. Or get this cute lip balm for just $6.49.
Distraction would love to see how you are contributing to the cause. Share your thoughts or pictures with us on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook.
