Unfortunately, Miami is not one of those cities that has a huge St. Patrick’s Day parade where everyone gathers together to celebrate their Irish heritage and drink beer. Probably because there isn’t much Irish heritage to celebrate in the 305. But that’s okay, we’ll save our energy for the real St. Patrick’s Day and make our ancestors proud.
1) The Grove. Drinking holiday plus a Thursday night equals Grove. In my opinion, the grove has been slacking lately, but this holiday offers the perfect opportunity for it to redeem itself. Hit up Tuesday’s for dollar test tube shots or Cuda’s for some pitchers. Whichever you do, Grove pizza at the end of the night is a must.
2) Sunset bars. Take this holiday as the once a year opportunity to go to Irish Times in Sunset. Sunset does have some pretty fun bars, but let’s be honest, who ever goes there? But on this day an Irish pub is sure to be #lit. Don’t miss out on their block party starting at 5pm. There will be live music, entertainment and, of course, bangers ‘n’ mash. Irish Times is open until 5am, so the party will last all night long. If you can stay the whole time and still make it to your Friday classes, power to you.
3) Brickell. For the people who like to be aggressive and go out in Brickell on Thursday nights, or maybe you live in Brickell, Fadó Irish Pub is the place to be tonight. It is Irish owned and operated, so you know even the owners know how to party. The pub throws a block party every St. Patty’s Day, which is the self-acclaimed top party in Miami. The event consists of over 8 hours of DJs and other entertainment as well as outdoor bars in Mary Brickell Village. What screams Irish more than fist bumping to EDM all night?? There is a $10 cover fee and the party starts at 4pm (hey, it’ll be past 5 in Ireland!)
4) Miracle Mile. There’s more than one Irish Pub and Restaurant in Coral Gables, who knew?! John Martin’s, located on Miracle Mile, is home to yet another self-acclaimed best St. Patrick’s Day parties. It starts bright and early at 11:30am and goes all day. There will be live music and bagpipes at noon and a DJ at 9pm.
5) Yacht Cruise. If you really want to do St. Patty’s Day Miami style, there’s a St. Patrick’s Day yacht cruise. Climb aboard, eat Irish food and listen to Irish jams while gazing at the lit up Miami skyline. There are two times: one leaves the dock in Miami Beach at 9:30 p.m., the other at midnight. Tickets are only $15!
6) Wynwood. If you’re looking for something closer and free, or are just a straight up hipster who spends weekends wandering around Wynwood, it can still be your go-to spot on this night. This artsy neighborhood is throwing a free street party. Try something new while doing something familiar and drink green beer while wandering around the streets looking at art.
There really are a lot of options for this holiday, not too shabby for a Cuban city. Whichever you decide to do, put on your cheesy “Kiss Me I’m Irish” shirt and shamrock accessories, rip a few Irish car bombs, and party like it’s the end of the potato famine.
