It’s common knowledge that Internet porn has become a booming industry. Today there are more than 26 million porn websites. Thanks to the Internet’s pervasiveness, X-rated entertainment is only a click away. It’s no wonder that these sexy flicks have become a popular research topic. Take a look at what these studies reveal about porn.
1) It’s a BIG business.
The phrase “sex sells” rings true. According to Family Safe Media, porn revenue is larger than that of Microsoft, Google, Amazon, eBay, Yahoo, Apple and Netflix combined!
2) U.S consumers account for over half of ALL online porn revenue.
Not only do Americans consume the most fast food, but also the most porn. According to Online MBA, U.S. Internet porn generates $2.84 billion of the annual $4.9 billion revenue worldwide.
3) Sunday is the most popular day of the week to consume porn.
More from Online MBA: the peak of porn-consumption is Sunday. On the flipside, the least popular day of the year for watching porn is Thanksgiving.
4) While watching porn, men mainly pay attention to the woman’s face.
When examining the viewing patterns of males and females, researchers from The Kinsey Institute at the University of Indiana and Emory University found that men look at the female’s face for sexual stimuli. I
5) Every 39 minutes a new pornographic video is made.

6) 1 in 5 men watch porn at work.
20% of men, and 13% of women, admit to watching porn online while at work, Online MBA shares. Also, the average porn site visit is 6 minutes and 29 seconds. Sounds pretty risky!
7) Winning an election can lead to higher usage of porn.
Published by Rutgers-Camden psychologist Charlotte Markey and Villanova University’s Patrick Markey, party wins in 2004, 2006, and 2008 led to an increase in Internet searches for porn. In a news release from Rutgers University, Charlotte Markey stated, “Research has shown testosterone levels fluctuate with whether or not one wins in a competition. Even if a man is sitting in a bar and his team wins, his testosterone levels will rise.”
8) More research has been done on the potential negative effects of porn rather than why we use it.
According to Erick Janssen, a scientist at the Kinsey Institute at Indiana University, most research on porn is performed to look at its harmful consequences.
9) Most males are first exposed to pornography at age 10.
The Telegraph states that University of Montreal scientists found out most guys first look at porn at about age 10. That’s fifth grade!
10) Utah residents subscribe to porn sites more than anyone else.
According to Deseret News, Utah’s daily newspaper, a Harvard economics professor found that Utah has the nation’s highest online porn subscription rate. Those kinky Mormons… The state with the lowest online porn subscription rate was Montana. Do they even have Internet there?
