10 Shows to Binge Watch on Netflix This Summer

You just finished “Orange is the New Black,” you’ve watched “Friends” a solid three times, and you’re looking for something new and exciting to get into for the next couple weeks (or days, if you’re really committed). Here are some shows that you should check out if you haven’t already.

1. Jessica Jones

A kiss-ass crime fighter who’s just as cynical as you were during finals week, and a super villain who doesn’t physically commit any crimes makes for an intense drama that will have you questioning every character’s true intensions.

2. Master of None

“You’ve never had Martinelli’s apple juice?” says Aziz Ansari’s character Dev with the same amount of disbelief that someone would say “You’ve never seen Master of None?” with. This show is relatable and a definite must-see. It’s lighthearted, but also deals with a lot of relevant topics. Trust us, you’ll be waiting impatiently for season two.

3. Parenthood

If you’re looking for a show to last you the majority of the summer, this is it. It’s a solid six seasons, so you’ll be able to watch it for a while. There are a lot of characters in this show, some of whom you will love and some that you’ll hate, but the diverse cast allows for plenty of different plotlines so that you’ll never be bored.

4. Prison Break

No doubt about it, this show is intense. If you haven’t already guessed, it starts off in a prison with Lincoln Burrows on death row for a crime he didn’t commit, leaving his genius younger brother to help get him out. It’s the intense characters and plot that will have you clicking “next episode” straight until 2 a.m.

5. Buffy the Vampire Slayer

This one is a cult classic for a reason, people. If you haven’t already noticed, crime fighting girls are kind of what it’s all about. Buffy, Willow and Xander, the show’s protagonists, make up a perfect crime fighting trio. While the show would be great focusing just on them, it’s the supporting characters that will end up hooking you as well.

6. Arrow

If you’re a fan of The Flash, or superheroes in general, “Arrow” might be perfect for you. There’s plenty of action and intense moments but if nothing else, you should watch this show because Stephen Amell is very easy on the eyes.

7. Sherlock

The perfect blend of mystery, intensity and wit in “Sherlock” make for an absolutely incredible show. With creative plots and dramatic cinematography, each episode looks more like a short movie than a TV show. You’ll end up wanting to see way more than the three episodes a season you’re provided with.

8. Sense8

To be honest, this show is pretty weird and somewhat hard to explain, but it is 100 percent worth watching. It is one of those shows that you think about for days after you finish it. Unfortunately, there’s only one season, so you’ll finish it pretty quickly.

9. Supernatural

It’s has vampires, werewolves,  ghosts, demons and, of course, good looking guys. Another show that has a huge cult following for good reason. Now if that doesn’t make you want to watch it, I don’t know what will.

10. Jane the Virgin

This show has all the twists and unexpected (read: unbelievable) tragedies you would expect from a novela infused with humor and a Miami backdrop. The narrations are actually hilarious. This show will leave you wondering which guy Jane will end up with as well as which Target she does her grocery shopping in.

Thalia Garcia is a junior majoring in Software Engineering. She’s from Miami and wants to eventually start her own software engineering business (or work for Pixar)! She loves pastelitos and café con leche.
